In brief
- RVH Speaking B.V. processes personal data to run this website, answer questions and enquiries, organise keynotes, keep its accounts and, if you have signed up for it, send you the newsletter.
- RVH Speaking B.V. does not sell your data and does not use it for its own advertising. What embedded services do with data themselves is described below and in the cookie statement.
- The site measures visits with Google Analytics, but only if you say yes in the cookie notice. Without a click we found no cookies or browser storage. After pressing play on a video, we did. What YouTube loads, and what we found out about it, is in the cookie statement.
- You can always ask which data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it.
Who is responsible
This website belongs to RVH Speaking B.V., the company behind Richard van Hooijdonk's keynotes. RVH Speaking B.V. is the controller responsible for processing your personal data through this site. If you have questions about privacy, email talks@vanhooijdonk.com.
What data we process, and why
When you request a keynote
The enquiry form asks for your first name, surname, email address, phone number, organisation and your question. We use these to get in touch, put together a proposal and prepare the keynote.
If you request a keynote for yourself, we process the data to take steps at your request before entering into a contract with you, and to perform that contract. If you request one on behalf of an organisation, we process your business contact details on the basis of our legitimate interest in handling enquiries and bookings. Data that the law requires us to keep for our accounts is processed to meet that obligation.
The form can only be sent once every field is filled in. That is our choice, not a legal requirement. If you would rather share less, email talks@vanhooijdonk.com instead.
The details you submit go straight to our customer management system, OnePageCRM. OnePageCRM is a service of Novus Via Limited in Ireland and processes the data on our behalf. According to OnePageCRM, the data is stored on Amazon Web Services servers in the United States. For that transfer outside the European Economic Area, OnePageCRM states that it uses the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for more information about this.
When you send us a WhatsApp message
At the bottom right of the site is a button that opens the Ask a question window, with four contact options: WhatsApp, call, email and the enquiry form. The button, the window and the WhatsApp QR code all come from this site's own server. Opening the window makes no connection to WhatsApp or any other service and sets no cookies. As soon as your device opens the WhatsApp link (after you click WhatsApp, use WhatsApp Web or scan the QR code with your phone), WhatsApp, a Meta service, receives your IP address among other things, even if you never send a message. WhatsApp's privacy policy applies to that.
If you do send us a message, we use your phone number and message to answer your question. For enquiries and bookings the legal bases above apply; for other questions the basis is our legitimate interest in answering them.
Newsletter
At the moment you cannot sign up for the newsletter through this site, and the site loads no sign-up field from a newsletter service. If you are already a subscriber, we use your email address to send you the newsletter. The legal basis is your consent. It is sent through beehiiv, a newsletter service based in the United States that processes your email address on our behalf. You can withdraw consent through the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every newsletter, or by emailing us.
When you watch a video
Videos you play in the YouTube player are hosted on YouTube, a Google service. The background videos, such as the one at the top of the home page, are served from this site's own server. A video is only loaded from YouTube when you press play. The player comes from youtube-nocookie.com, which YouTube calls privacy-enhanced mode. When a video starts, YouTube does set cookies on youtube.com; the cookie statement lists them. During playback Google receives your IP address, and Google's privacy policy applies. As long as you do not click, the site makes no connection to YouTube.
When you consent to statistics
If you click That's fine in the cookie notice, Google Analytics 4 records which pages you view, how you reached the site, what kind of device and browser you use, whether an enquiry form was sent successfully, and whether you clicked WhatsApp, call or email in the Ask a question window. When an enquiry is reported, none of the form's contents go to Google. A click in the window does not pass your phone number, email address or message to Google: the site does not know them. A click does not tell us whether you then actually called or sent a message, and scanning the QR code is not measured. We use the figures to improve the site. The legal basis is your consent. Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited, which processes the data on our behalf. Google may also process it in the United States; Google LLC takes part in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for this. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 uses your IP address to estimate your location but does not store the IP address. Google signals and personalised advertising are switched off, and we do not share the data with Google for any other purpose. Google Analytics keeps the data for 14 months; after that it is deleted. The Google Analytics cookies and their lifetimes are listed in the cookie statement. If you click No thanks, or make no choice, the site does not load Google Analytics. If you gave consent, Google Analytics loads on later visits for as long as that consent lasts, which is six months. You withdraw consent by clicking Change cookie settings in the cookie statement and then No thanks. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of what was measured with your consent before that moment.
When you visit the site
This site's fonts, images and background videos are served from the site's own server. Without a click, and as long as you have not consented to statistics, your browser connects to that server and nowhere else. We checked this on 21 October 2026 across all 94 Dutch and English pages in the sitemap. YouTube and WhatsApp only come into play after a click of your own, as described above. What our checks on cookies, browser storage and connections showed in detail is in the cookie statement. If a service that uses data is added, we will explain what it uses the data for, who provides the service and how long the data is kept, and ask for consent where that is required before the service starts.
How long we keep data
- Enquiries that do not lead to a booking: no more than two years after the last contact.
- Data covered by the tax retention obligation: seven years, the period the law sets for business records. Where a different legal period applies to certain data, we follow that. Other booking data is deleted once we no longer need it to deliver the booking and complete the related administration.
- WhatsApp messages: no more than two years after the last contact.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Google Analytics cookies: 180 days after your last visit, or less if you withdraw consent.
Who we share data with
We work with service providers for website hosting, email, customer management, newsletters, statistics (only with your consent) and accounting. They receive only the data they need for their work. For a booked keynote we share the necessary contact and event details with the organiser or speaker bureau through which the keynote was arranged. Beyond that we only share your data when the law requires us to.
Security
The site runs over an encrypted connection (https). The domain is on the browsers' HSTS preload list, so browsers will only open the site encrypted. Access to the customer system is limited to the people who handle enquiries.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- see which data we hold about you;
- have incorrect data corrected;
- ask for your data to be deleted;
- have processing restricted;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interest;
- receive the data you gave us yourself in a commonly used, machine-readable format, or have it passed to another organisation, where that right applies;
- withdraw your consent, for example for the newsletter or for statistics.
Some rights come with conditions set by law. Data we are legally required to keep, for instance, cannot be deleted straight away.
Send your request to talks@vanhooijdonk.com. You will hear what we have done with it as soon as possible, and within one month at the latest. If a request is complex, or we receive a large number of them, this can take up to two months longer; if so, we will tell you within the first month and explain why. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes
If anything changes in how we process data, we update this statement. The date of the latest change is always at the top.
